thought I should clarify this.  The server is irc.freenode.net and the channel is
#amharic (all lowercase).  I recommend X-Chat because it works on unix and ms windows,
it is also partially localized for Amharic (needs work!) and has no problems with UTF-8
text.  Check the X-Chat homepage (http://xchat.org), they now have a monospaced unicode
TTF font which should be interesting to try.
